Take a Walk on the Wild Side!
Arrowrock Hostel is ideally located for visitors interested in walking through the dramatic landscape of North West Ireland. The Bricklieve Mountains, the Curlews, the Sligo Historical Trail and the Arigna Miners way are all within easy reach of the hostel and offer the walker a constantly changing vista at every turn.
The Arigna Miners Way and part of the Sligo Historic Trail pass within 1km of the hostel and there are many walking routes on the nearby mountains, particularly directly across the lake where the Bricklieve Mountains are crowned by the Carrokeel Neolithic Tomb complex.
The area has everything to offer from the rugged Atlantic Coast to mountains rising steeply out of the surrounding plains. Magnificent lakeland vistas emerge as you cross a ridge or round a bend in the road; glacial valleys and deep glens forged by tumbling rivers appear and disappear as the walker passes thorough this enchanted region.
And then there is the sky, a dramatic canvas washed by the Atlantic weather systems. A backdrop that constantly changes the colour and texture of the landscape, is a delight to the eye and irresistible to the artist or photographer.
Walking any of the smaller roads or marked pathways is a delightful way to explore the county at a leisurely pace and to discover treasures that would be missed from a car.
