Arigna Mining Experience The Arigna Mining Experience provides visitors with a unique insight into what coal mining life was like in the Arigna Valley, since its beginning in the 1700's until closure in 1990.
The center includes an exhibition center and an underground tour, where visitors will experience what it was like to work in some of the narrowest coal seams in the western world. The tour lasts 45 minutes and includes the coalface where the methods used to extract the coal are demonstrated.
Lough Key Boat Tours Enjoy the beauty, tranquillity and history of Lough Key, on board the 40-seater boat "The Trinity" a fully enclosed, centrally heated tour boat with a fully licensed Bar and snack facilities.
During the tour you will be entertained by legends, for instance "Una Bhan" and the legacy of Trinity, Church and Castle islands. These tours are available on the hour during the summer season, which starts the last week June until the last week of August and are ideal for all the family
Irish Raptor Center Located near Ballymote, Eagles Flying is the largest Centre for Birds of Prey and Owls in Ireland. Experience some of the biggest birds of prey in the world flying right over your head or landing next to you. A fantastic and memorable experience for all the family.
The center is about 25 minutes from ArrowRock Hostel.
King House Boyle A magnificently restored Georgian Mansion located in Boyle (about 10 minutes from ArrowRock Hostel). It was built in the early 1700’s for Sir Henry King, whose family were one of the most powerful and wealthy in Ireland.
Now fully restored it houses a museum, tourist office and other interesting attractions. Well worth a visit for all the family
Lough Key Forest Park Now after major development the historic backdrop of the park encompasses a landmark cluster of unique attractions serving the needs of a 21st century visitor with a new lakeside centre providing an ideal gateway for gentle leisurely activities or more energetic pursuits in the Park. A treat for all the family with boat trips, great walks, and a Adventure Play Kingdom for the younger ones. Only a few miles from ArrowRock Hostel
Sligo Folk Park A visit to the Sligo folk Park, in nearby Riverstown, is a true experience of rural and Irish heritage. Here, in the heart of County Sligo, the cultural history and heritage of the whole region comes to life. This is a place, which is great for young and old. Children can discover how their great grandparents used to live and, those who are still young at heart, can rediscover how life used to be in days gone by.
History & Mythology of Carrowkeel & Moytura This is an excellent site covering local and national historic sites and Celtic mythology with particular emphasis on Carrowkeel, the megalithic tomb complex across the lake from ArrowRock Hostel and the fabled Battle of Moytura which is thought to have been fought along the ridge just to the east of the hostel.
